A TEENAGER finishes secondary school next week having never missed a single day in his life.

Jamie Wood, who is 16, has a 100 per cent attendance record at Seaford Head School – and at St Margaret’s Primary in Rottingdean, which he joined when he was four.

His mother Michelle and father Dave are extremely proud of their son and the fact he has never taken even one day off sick.

Michelle, of Lincoln Avenue, Peacehaven, said: “I am really proud of him.

“Never in my whole life did I think he was going to go through with it.”

Jamie finishes his GCSE exams next week, officially marking the end of his secondary school years.

Michelle said: “He’s determined to keep it up.

“He wants to go to college and wants to make sure it’s the same case there.

“Hopefully it will continue for him through the next step and even at work.

She said Jamie, who has a sister, Danielle, 18, sets a good example to others around him.

She has seen him soldier on despite “having the sniffles.”

She said: “I am just so impressed that whatever the weather he just does what he does and carries on as normal.

“He just gets on with it and won’t let anything bother him too much.

“He’s a very laidback kid and loves his music.

“And he really doesn’t mind going to school, clearly. Staff at the school are like ‘I can’t believe he’s never had a day off’.”

Jamie said: “Having gone all the way through primary without a day off, I tried to then make it my goal in secondary.

“I don’t often get ill and if I do I just try to carry on.

“Sometimes I felt I could have lapsed when I felt under the weather but I persevered. I like a challenge.

“Also I knew if I did it Seaford Head presents you with a £50 voucher so that’s a bonus.”

Jamie featured in The Argus back in 2014 when he left St Margaret’s.

His deputy headteacher at the time, Jon Gilbert, said he had never seen such an impressive record in 27 years of teaching and said it was remarkable.

Now Jamie has gone on to repeat the feat at secondary school.

Seaford Head assistant head James Pratt said he too had never come across a child with 100 per cent attendance.

He said: “Jamie is a laidback boy but also very determined to keep that record of full attendance in tact.

“Even when he’s not too well he’s happy to just keep it up.”

“Sometimes getting up and doing things can be the best way to get yourself feeling a bit better.

“Jamie is a really good example to other students and to the rest of the school, and other schools.

“He has resilience and he’s a popular guy.”

Headteacher Bob Ellis said: “We are all really proud of Jamie – this is an amazing achievement.

“This sets a fantastic example to younger students and speaks volumes about Jamie’s character and his determination to secure the best possible GCSE outcomes.

“Jamie can now look forward to continuing with his outstanding attendance into the Seaford Head sixth form.”
