THE LANDLORDS of a town centre nightclub are looking for a new tenant for the premises.

Ikonic Nightclub in Nelson Square has been closed since last month after eviction notices appeared on the doors.

On May 17, landlords K/S Bolton UK said that they had re-entered the property to take it back and now say they are no longer in talks with the club’s owner.

The eviction notice explained that the lease had come to an end.

Daniel Thomas of Primas Law, the legal firm acting on behalf of the owner said that the eviction was “down to payments”.

Nectar Asset Management, who are also working on behalf of the landlords have now said they are no longer in talks with Ikonic owner Dean Morton and that they are hoping to find a new tenant for the building.

A spokesman said: “We are no longer in discussions with Dean.

“We will be appointing a letting agent in due course to find a new tenant.”

Ikonic Nightclub only officially reopened on April 18 following a licensing battle.

At the time, Mr Morton had high hopes of making Ikonic a key part of the town’s nightclub scene.

In a licensing hearing he said: “I’ve already demonstrated that I can run a venue with no incidents and I strive to do the same with Ikonic. I feel as if I ought to be able to have the chance to prove I can turn Ikonic Nightclub into an big part of Bolton’s night time economy.”

Ikonic originally opened in September 2018, following a £500,000 refurbishment of the premises. However, the club came up against licensing issues and had to cancel events.

In November it closed temporarily because of a licensing issue and a wrestling event had to be relocated with just a day’s notice.

The next month a ticketed event had to be postponed to the following week, again organisers cited “licensing issues” as the reason. On that occasion the club promised refunds and free tickets to partygoers.

In February an under-18s night had to be rescheduled at the last minute because of an issue with the sound system.

In April the club opened for the first time since New Year’s Eve.

There has been no mention of the club’s closure on the Ikonic Nightclub Facebook page and they are still advertising an event called ‘I am a Raver’ on Saturday June 22.

The Bolton News has approached Mr Morton for comment.
