A GERMAN artist has redesigned the exterior of a popular art gallery.

Lothar Götz was chosen from a list of about 60 artists to transform the walls of the Towner Art Gallery in Devonshire Park, Eastbourne.

The Brewers Towner Commission, which is run by the gallery, hired Lothar to give the exterior of the building a completely new look.

Lothar said: “I went to Eastbourne for a couple of days to look at the building beforehand and then decide how to do the design.

“The actual painting of the building, which I did with six or seven other people, took about three weeks.

“What’s very different on the building to my original application is the brighter colours and crisper lines. I’m delighted with how it’s turned out. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

The Towner Art Gallery was founded in 1923 and has a history of collecting and exhibiting contemporary art.
