FOUR youths have been arrested for burglaries and stealing from a car.

The youngsters aged between 14 and 17 failed to stop for police on patrol in Alfriston Road, Seaford at 6am today.

Inspector Ed Ripley said the group's crime spree has caused concerned, but said the four were in custody.

They were in a suspicious car which made off from police. After pursuing, police found watches and sunglasses stolen in Seaford overnight.

Insp Ripley said: "I fully understand why the community feels upset and angry about this spate of crime, but be assured that police are focused on addressing this.

He said the police have taken "relentless" action to tackle the antisocial behaviour, with 57 arrests made since September.

Most recently he said eight youths were arrested and are on bail after an assault outside the Co-op in Ford Road, Newhaven last month.

He urged any victims of the recent burglaries to come forward by calling 101 and quoting 156 of 13.06.

Meanwhile a public meeting will be held at 7pm on Friday, June 14 at Newhaven Football Club to discuss how to tackle the problem of youths' antisocial behaviour, crime and disorder.
