A FIRE is sweeping through a derelict building for the second time.

The building in School Road, Hove, which was once home to the Westows children's play area, is on fire again.

Fire crews are attempting to keep the fire, which broke out about 7pm, under control.

In March another fire, which was treated as suspicious, swept through the building.

The fire service is warning people to keep away from the area.

Conservative councillor for the ward, Robert Nemeth, said: “It’s sad to see yet another fire at this derelict site and a relief that nobody was injured.

The Argus:

”Cllr Peltzer Dunn and I have immediately contacted Hyde Housing to request that the pile of wood which was set on fire in two places is cleared urgently.”

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "We got our first call at 7.18pm saying there was smoke coming from derelict industrial in School Road, Hove.

"Four fire engines using breathing and main jets are in attendance.

"There are no reports of injuries and we have requested police to help with road management."
