A PRE-SCHOOL playgroup has been told it must improve by Ofsted following a recent inspection.

Platform 3 in Manor Field Primary School, Junction Road, Burgess Hill, was given the second lowest rating of “requires improvement”, in an inspection on May 3. It was given the rating in two out of the four categories used to measure schools.

The school was told the effectiveness of leadership and management and the personal development, behaviour and welfare of the children requires improvement.

It said: “The provider has failed to ensure that staff files containing all required documents are available during inspection, particularly records relating to staff identity checks and vetting processes that have been completed.”

However, inspectors praised the happiness of children who were “settled and emotionally secure and behave well”.

They added that the school has a very thorough and robust induction procedure and appointed staff do not have unsupervised access until all suitability checks are complete.
