A man is still being held by police in connection with a rape attack in Brighton's Pavilion Gardens.

The 23-year-old man was arrested at the weekend and police have now sought to extend his 24 hour time limit to detain him longer.

He currently still remains in police custody.

A woman in her 20s told police she was attacked at around 5.45am on June 8, in the area of the gardens near India Gate - near the public toilets.

Detectives investigating the rape of a woman in her 20s near Brighton Pavilion on Saturday 8 June wish to thank members of the public who have contacted police with information.

As a result a 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He was detained on Saturday (15 June) and is currently in police custody awaiting interview.

Officers are still keen to hear from anyone who may have relevant information concerning this incident but who have not yet come forward.
