PEOPLE are being encouraged to take part in a beach clean.

TV presenter Ben Fogle is supporting the event on Brighton seafront on Friday.

The clean will end with a party to mark the summer solstice at Brighton’s Sea Lanes, near Yellowave.

Beer brand Corona and environmental organisation Parley For The Oceans will be hosting the event as the first of a series of beach cleans around the UK to remove plastic waste from British shores.

Residents and tourists can get involved and will be rewarded with free beer at the party.

Ben is calling for people to give up just one item of single-use plastic for a month in the hope of saving 326 million pieces of plastic from use over the course of the month.

He said: “You may feel like your individual efforts to avoid plastic are just a drop in the ocean. But if we all play our part, those drops will become a wave of change. I am working to help rally the public to remove plastic pollution from our oceans. It’s time to turn off the plastic tap.”

The beach clean starts at 5pm near Yellowave. Sign up at www.ProtectParadise.com.
