A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a two-car crash which allegedly resulted in a man being hurled through the air.

Emergency services closed Burgess Road, Southampton, between University Road and Glen Eyre Road after a silver Peugeot 307 crashed into a parked Peugeot 308.

The crash happened after 10.20pm on Monday and the 33-year-old man was also arrested for dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident.

Now the man has been released under investigation and a 26-year-old man who was travelling in the Peugeot 307 suffered a head injury.

One resident said: “I heard a bang and my husband heard tyres screeching on the road. He called my name and at first I thought it involved my children.

“We ran outside and one of the passengers who was in the backseat of the Peugeot 307 had been flung out of the moving car.

“There was glass over the road from one side to the other and it was still being cleaned up until 2am.

“My husband passed his phone as a torch to help the man and there were other residents watching the scene from their houses.”

She added: “The car that was stationary ended up at a 90 degree angle after the crash and was in the bushes near the Post Office and Costa Coffee.

“There were also two police cars and an ambulance at the scene.”

Two patients were treated at the crash and both of the men were taken to University Hospital Southampton.
