SALTDEAN Lido is hoping to make a splash today with its first summer solstice festival.

The event, which celebrates the longest day of the year, will take place between 7pm and 10pm.

In a statement, the lido said: “Saltdean has been the home of human settlements since the Stone Age so why not follow in your ancient ancestors’ example and celebrate the longest day with your family and friends in the perfect setting.”

It will involve swimming in the heated pool with Goldie the mermaid, plus there is a licensed bar and a pizza wagon.

Live music will also be on show with Brilliant Mistakes and acoustic folk band Salamanda performing at the event.

All money raised will go towards the restoration of the lido.

Brighton and Hove City Council has already pledged £700,000 towards the scheme and work is being carried out to secure a £4.2 million donation from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Free child tickets are being given away with every paying adult (two child tickets with every paying adult). Adult tickets are £8 and available via the Saltdean Lido website.
