YOBS smashed a Nutella jar over a much-loved slide which is used regularly by children and used the hazelnut spread to smear obscene remarks all over it.

The slide in the playground in Hangleton Park has been targeted by vandals a number of times since it was installed last year.

Conservative Nick Lewry, the ward councillor for Hangleton and Knoll, said: “`What goes through someone’s head when they are doing something like this?

“What is the point?

“Sadly this is not the first time this slide has been vandalised.”

Pictures from the scene show the chocolate spread has been smeared over the slide.

In addition, the word s*** has been graffitied on the play equipment.

The latest vandalism comes after a lengthy campaign to get the slide installed so that youngsters would be able to enjoy it, particularly during the summer.

Families in the area campaigned long and hard to get the park’s old slide and climbing frame replaced.

Cllr Lewry added: “The play area is short of equipment and that is why it was great to get the slide installed.

“It is very popular.

“In fact, some of the other items have been there for more than 25 years.

“Therefore you can imagine the delight when we got the new frame and slide. This latest incident of vandalism is absolutely disgusting.”
