Van Morrison

Brighton Dome, Brighton, December 2 and 3

SINGER-SONGWRITER Van Morrison has announced a short run of UK tour dates.

The legendary Irish singer will perform two dates at the Brighton Dome on December 2 and 3.

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am.

Born George Ivan Morrison. Van Morrison has delighted fans with his music for more than 60 years.

He first broke onthe international scene as a member of Northern Irish blues rock band Them.

The group were only around for two years before Morrison left, while the other members relocated to America.

The 73-year-old would go on to focus on his solo career, with his first album Blowin’ Your Mind being released in 1967.

The opening song from the record, Brown Eyed Girl, would go on to become... and still is... the singer’s most popular track.

Astral Weeks, his first record with Warner Bros, was released the following year but failed to break into the top 50 in the charts although it is now regarded as one of the greatest albums ever made.

It would take 38 years, and more than 30 records for Van Morrison to earn his highest chart effort to date. The 2005 release Magic Time charted at number three and remains his greatest success in the UK charts.

Including collaborations and live records Van Morrison has released 39 records since his debut solo effort in 1967. The most recent of these was You’re Driving Me Crazy released last year.

Morrison has under his belt a vast number of awards including a knighthood, a Brit, an OBE, an Ivor Novello, six Grammys, honorary doctorates from Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster and entry into The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. His mini run of UK dates starts in Bournemouth on October 21 and he also visits Cardiff, Oxford and Nottingham. There will then be a month break before Brighton.
