THE Labour Party annual conference will return to Brighton this year.

The party chose Liverpool for last year’s autumn get together but said it was looking forward to returning to the South Coast.

A spokesman said: “We are delighted that in 2019 we will be returning to Brighton.

“Each year, thousands of people attend Labour’s annual conference to make policy, attend some of the thousands of fringe events, and spend time with like-minded people.

“Our delegates and visitors will take part in debates to shape Labour’s vision for Britain and more than 13,000 people attend annual conference for both the politics and the wider experiences available.

“With more than 450 fringe events, a vibrant exhibition and great opportunities to network and share ideas, annual conference is an event not to be missed.”

Events will take place across the city but the main conference venues are The Brighton Centre and the Metropole.

Brighton will host the event between September 21 and September 25.

Since 2000, Brighton has hosted the Labour conference nine times, more than any other city, but the 2018 meeting was moved to Liverpool.

There, the prospect of a second EU referendum was a hot topic and both party leader Jeremy Corbyn and deputy leader Tom Watson said if the conference voted for a second referendum they would support it.

During a debate, a motion was written which said: “If we cannot get a general election Labour must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote.”

This was later passed at the conference.

A Labour Party spokesman detailed what was expected at this year’s conference.

He said: “Annual conference is a voting conference, attended by delegates from constituencies, trade unions and socialist societies voting on policies put forward at the national policy forums, as well as a number of motions put forward by constituencies.

“In addition to the voting taking place in the main hall, there are also keynote speeches from all areas of the party, culminating in leader’s speech at the close of conference.

“The main hall seats the delegates, but there are also seats for members to watch the action.”

There will also be events running throughout the week of the event for party members.
