THE headteacher of a school where children’s exam results were tampered with will not now be returning to her job.

Suzanne Morgan, principal of Saltdean Primary, has not been in post since September after “serious accusations” were made that pupils’ SATs results had been altered.

Parents were later told that some children’s SATs exam papers were “amended outside of test conditions”.

It meant all the 2017 spelling, punctuation and grammar SATs exam results at the school were invalid.

Mrs Morgan had been due to return to work this term after an investigation into the claims.

One parent previously said: “I’m absolutely astonished that she’s managed to keep her job.”

But her return was delayed after further allegations were made about SATs exams in previous years.

Now chairman of governors Joe Paxton says she will not be coming back at all.

In a letter to parents, he said: “Appropriate processes and procedures were followed which delayed Mrs Morgan’s return.

“These processes were further delayed due to Mrs Morgan suffering ill health due to a herniated disc and related nerve damage.

“It has been a difficult time for both the school and Mrs Morgan and we can now announce that it has been agreed that Mrs Morgan will not be returning to Saltdean Primary.

“In light of this, we will be seeking to appoint an interim/executive head for September.

“This role will provide key support and assist in the smooth running of the school while we recruit our next headteacher.

“Mrs Burley will continue in the role as acting head for the final part of this school year.

“We would like to take a moment to acknowledge the professionalism of our teachers and staff.

“We would also like to commend our children on their hard work and their continued focus on their education.

“We would also like say a special thank you to Mrs Burley, Mrs Reeve and Miss Miller and all our wonderful school staff who have worked tirelessly this year to drive the school forward.

“To our parents/carers, during this time, we have endeavoured to keep you informed wherever possible and we would like to thank you for your patience.”

The council said: "We have offered advice and guidance to the governing body of Saltdean Primary School to help ensure the school, which is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, continues to be successful.

"Decisions relating to the employment of staff in any particular school are the responsibility of the school’s governing body, not the council.”
