WORK started on the south coast’s biggest wheel yesterday as a team of builders lifted the 46-metre high beast into place.
The Worthing promenade shut as two cranes lifted the behemoth onto the seafront, where it is due to open this month.
The Worthing Observation Wheel was partly assembled in Holland and brought to England by eight lorries.
Once completed, it will be as tall as nine double decker buses, three times taller than any other building on the seafront.
Saturday’s Parkrun has been cancelled due to the promenade being narrowed to one and a half metres wide while works continue.
Plans for the big wheel were approved in a heated Worthing Borough Council meeting in March. Once it opens, the attraction will close in October and reopen the following April.
