PARENTS are being told to keep up-to-date with technology to make sure their children are safe online.
West Sussex County Council is looking to raise awareness of the possible dangers faced by youngsters on the internet.
A spokesman said: “It’s really important to keep up to date so you can make sure your child is staying safe.”
A spokesman for awareness resource group Get Safe Online said: “For young people, the internet is a wonderful place. We embrace these benefits, but equally, we know that it can be a challenging and potentially hazardous experience.
“The fact that many of our young people have a greater knowledge of technology than we do doesn’t make them aware of the risks they face.”
It advised parents to use parental control software, have regular conversations about the good and bad things available on the internet, and set boundaries and rules for their children.
