A LARGE search was carried out after a pile of teenager’s clothes was found near the ocean’s edge.
Police and Newhaven Lifeboat crews rushed to the scene in Splash Point, Seaford, and quickly carried out a visual search with binoculars.
Lifeboat crews also scoured a “large area of sea”.
The clothes were left on the promenade and lifeboat crews were called out at 6.17pm yesterday.
As the search continued, services were told by residents that they suspected the clothes had been there for at least a day.
A Newhaven Coastguard spokesman said: “With further intelligence from Sussex Police and multiple reports of the items being there for some time the search was called off.
“Please don’t leave items of clothing on the beach as this can spark time-consuming costly searches.
“Likewise if you see unattended clothing with no one returning to it please call us, someone may be missing.
“In a Coastal emergency always dial 999 and ask for Coastguard.”
