A PUBLIC toilet on Brighton beach which was closed throughout a busy weekend has now been reopened.
Bursting beachgoers were at risk of being caught short as the toilets on the Lower Promenade to the east of Brighton Palace Pier were shut.
Brighton and Hove City Council was forced to close the toilet on Friday after it found “problems” with the facilities.
A spokesman said: “We’re having some problems with our toilets on the Lower Prom, east of Brighton Pier.
“They may be shut for a time while we and Southern Water investigate.
“The nearest toilets are The Colonnade on Madeira Drive.”
The toilet remained shut throughout the weekend, during which thousands of people flocked to Brighton beach to enjoy the sunshine and soaring temperatures.
At noon on Monday the council gave an update.
It said: “The toilets on the Lower Prom have now reopened.”
The council said it had collected 20 tonnes of rubbish after a “very busy weekend”.
