THE body of a 20-year-old man was found on the beach below cliffs at Beachy Head.
Members of the coastguard spotted the body while flying a helicopter in the area on Wednesday, July 10.
The body was found at the foot of Beachy Head, near Eastbourne, after he fell some 400 feet to his death.
Sussex Police and the coroner are investigating the incident involving the young man.
A post mortem examination is to be carried out the body to ascertain the exact cause of his death and an inquest will be opened.
A girl reported to have been missing was also found in the area at the time when the body was found.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We received a report of a man falling from Beachy Head at about 11.20am on Wednesday, July 10.
“A body was spotted by the coastguard helicopter shortly before 12.30pm and has been recovered.
“The death has been referred to the coroner and there are no suspicious circumstances.
“Around the same time we received a report of a missing girl from Horsham who was thought to be in the Beachy Head area.
“She was subsequently found.”
An HM Coastguard spokeswoman said: “On Wednesday (10 July) HM Coastguard assisted Sussex Police with an incident at Beachy Head.”
