“THE Glastonbury of Elm Grove” returned on Saturday.

Patchfest, organised by the Friends of William Clarke Park, is now in its 15th year.

From humble beginnings, the Brighton mini-festival now offers two live music stages, DJs, a beer tent, barbecue, a “healing area” and even a football tournament.

Organiser Duncan Blinkhorn, 57, said: “It was a fantastic day, great atmosphere and first-rate weather.

“Everyone was smiling from the tiny tots to the seniors.”

Party-goers were treated to food and great weather as live bands played into the early evening.

Jonathon Harding, 24, was soaking up the late-afternoon sunshine with a locally-brewed beer in hand.

The man from nearby Upper Lewes Road said: “I’ve been coming for five years now and this is without doubt the best one yet. I’ve been here all day drinking cans and listening to great music.”

The festival, near Elm Grove, is free to attend – but people are asked for donations on the gate.

Jackie Doyle, 55, came with friend Kamal Dasi, 60.

She said: “”It’s just so lovely, everyone’s enjoying themselves.

“We love our festivals and this one’s got things for everybody – even the children.”

Local residents and travelling volunteers help put the festival together.

One volunteer came all the way from Vietnam to help out. Ruth Sharma, 43, was running the Tea Tent – a place to pick up hot drinks, cakes and of course, Pimm’s.

She said: “It’s great, but exhausting, I’ve been running up and down all day. It’s is a party vibe where people can enjoy a real community spirit.”
