POLICE are hunting for witnesses after a man was hit by a car in a layby.

The driver then pulled away and the victim, a local man in his 60s, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to be treated for his injuries.

Police have issued a renewed appeal for witnesses to the crash which happened on the A283 at Steyning.

The incident happened shortly before 6.30pm on June 5.

Police enquiries at the time led to the arrest of two people.

A 42-year-old man from Worthing was arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm and failing to stop after a road traffic accident.

He has been bailed until 22 August pending further enquiries.

A 40-year-old woman from Worthing was also arrested in connection with the incident but she has since been released without charge.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who has dash cam or CCTV which may have captured it. They are urged to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 1073 of 05/06.
