A CAR has crashed into a central reservation blocking the A27.

The incident happened at about 4.30pm and is causing “severe traffic” in nearby roads.

Police are on the scene.

A spokesman for Chichester Police said: “We are currently at the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A27 eastbound between Havant and Chichester.

“There is traffic in both directions which is being massively affected.

"Please avoid if possible."

An AA spokesman said: “The road is partially blocked and there is queueing traffic due to a crash on the A27 eastbound between the junctions with the A259 Havant Road (Emsworth Junction) and the A259 Cathedral Way (Fishbourne Roundabout).

“A car has reportedly hit the central reservation, affecting traffic heading from Hampshire into West Sussex.”

He warned drivers to expect delays of 52 minutes in the area and said these delays were likely to increase.

There is also a second crash on the A27 blocking another part of the road.

An AA spokesman said: "The road is partially blocked and there is queueing traffic due to a crash.

"A car and a motorbike were involved on the A27 Chichester By Pass on the A259 (Bognor Bridge Roundabout).

"It is causing congestion in all directions, especially on the Bognor Road and the A27 Westbound back to West Sussex."
