Girl Power: The Spice Girls Experience

HHHH

Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, Friday, July 12

IF YOU weren’t lucky enough to see the real deal on their recent stadium tour, Girl Power was a fun tribute act that brought all the energy and hits of the Spice Girls to this Worthing stage.

While this show, of course, lacked the scale of the British pop group’s Wembley gig, it did include Posh, albeit a convincing doppelganger.

Praise also to Scary, Baby, Sporty and Ginger who perfectly mimicked the mannerisms of their famous counterparts and attacked the signature choreography with enthusiasm.

Emulating the biggest girl band of all time is no mean feat but Girl Power pulled off confident, soundalike vocals throughout.

Sure, the Spice Girls were never known for outstanding singing; it was all about the attitude which was present here in abundance.

Despite their impact on pop culture, the Spice Girls have a fairly limited back catalogue but all the hits were here including Wannabe, Who Do You Think You Are and Spice Up Your Life.

Ballads like 2 Become 1 and Viva Forever showed quality vocals, in particularly Sporty and Baby’s, but it was the pop bangers that really got the crowd going.

A night of pure cheesy pop but the audience revelled in the Nineties nostalgia.
