A CARELESS driver has caused serious damage after crashing into nine parked cars before running away.

A resident, who preferred not to be named, witnessed the incident in First Avenue, Hove, at 4am this morning.

He said: "I woke up after hearing a loud noise and went outside and about ten cars had been smashed up. They were smashed to pieces.

"The car the driver was in had flipped on its side a bit further down.

"The damage was serious, I think all the cars he hit have been written-off.

"I am surprised he managed to run away because of the damage done to his car and the others.

"I heard a couple who passed by helped pull one of the passengers out of the car that flipped, who also managed to run away."The Argus:

The witness said he wasn't sure how many people were involved in the incident, but the driver and passenger he saw run from the scene were young men.

He said: "There were about 20 residents living on this street standing outside at 4am this morning while car alarms were going off and there was just a sea of smashed up cars.

"Luckily mine was parked a bit further down the road and wasn't damaged."
