A MAN said he was called a “n****r” after he photographed a car parked on the pavement outside a Coop.

The victim of the alleged verbal abuse, who wished to remain anonymous, was taking photos of a car parked on a zebra crossing in Seven Dials, Brighton, when he was approached by a passer-by.

The man demanded he stop taking pictures and delete everything he had already taken.

The victim said: “He started trying to argue with me.

“Then he became aggressive and was saying that I ought to delete the pictures.

“I refused and declined to engage further with his arguments.

“I was walking into the Co-op when he then shouted at the top of his voice ‘you f*****g n****r’.

“He went on to use other non racist expletives as well.

“In the few seconds it took me to finish in the shop and exit, the man had gone and several witnesses gathered and said how horrible they thought that was and so on.”

The incident was then reported to police.

It happened at about 4pm on Wednesday, July 4.

The victim said: “I’m fine, I’m generally a calm person and, as I say, I wasn’t up for a row or taking the bait to escalate matters. But this serious racist verbal abuse and an implied threat of violence concerns me.

“It shows that some people believe that the rest of us ought to butt out and not interfere or else.”

The victim came forward after a picture of the parking appeared in The Argus.

We asked if this was Brighton’s worst parking.

The victim said it was “possibly the worst bit of driving seen recently”.

Police are looking for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward.
