POLICE are looking for volunteers to help their officers crack down on dangerous drivers.
The Community SpeedWatch service is recruiting volunteers to assist Sussex Police in reducing deaths and injuries on roads.
Officer Steve O’Connell said the group sends more than 3,500 letters per month to dangerous drivers.
He said: “The groups are highly trained and work to a strict protocol with equipment issued and accuracy checked by Sussex Police.
“Any vehicles not adhering to the speed limit in residential areas are reported to the police who then go on to
issue the letters after verification.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and by working together we can effectively help protect our communities from antisocial driving. Remember anyone can report antisocial driving through the Operation Crackdown website.
“We also offer other important road safety advice through the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership.”
Each Community SpeedWatch volunteer is given full training by Sussex Police.
Interventions by volunteers have been shown to reduce speeding by eight per cent in some areas.
Those interested in joining should visit www.communityspeedwatch.org or email csw@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
