WHILE most of us enjoy the warm sunshine this week there are potential dangers to be aware of for some.

As temperatures soar, it is important to be mindful of people, or animals, who might need some extra attention.

Dogs, in particular, must be monitored in hot weather as they can overheat or even get sunburnt.

Tracey Rae, centre manager at Dogs Trust Shoreham, said: “A few key tips are not to excessively walk dogs in high temperatures, “Try to go for walks early morning or later in the evenings, when it will be cooler for them.

“Always ensure that you have plenty of water with you when out and about with your pooch and keep them hydrated.”

Tracey also warns owners to never leave dogs inside a vehicle as temperatures rise quickly and, even just for a few minutes can prove fatal.

The RSPCA has some great ideas when it comes to keeping pets cool at home.

You can add ice cubes to water bowls or wet towels for them to lie on.

Young babies and older people can be at risk in the heat too.

Babies under six months should be kept out of direct sunlight.

Avoid covering prams and pushchairs with blankets as they can quickly overheat.

At bedtime run them a cool bath and keep nightwear to a minimum.
