HUNDREDS of angry protesters have marched in opposition to the new Tory Prime Minister.

The marchers gathered at The Level before going through Brighton city centre to voice their disapproval of “Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson”.

The main banner said “Johnson Out” and about 200 to 300 paraded through the city towards the Peace Statue in Hove.

Police officers provided an escort along the route to ensure the safety of the public and those taking part.

The protesters say the new Tory leader, who became Prime Minister on Wednesday after party Conservative members voted for him, does not represent them or their views.

Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle spoke to the crowd alongside trade unionists, campaigners and activists from the city.

The Argus:

Among those attending the demonstration was Nikolai Brown, 29, from Hollingdean, who said: “Most of us did not get to have a say about him being our prime minister.

“We want that chance, as we don’t want him as the leader of our country.”

The Argus:

Meanwhile Wolfran Lohr, 50, from Hollingdean, attended after being inspired to protest by his children over climate change.

He said: “Boris has sneaked himself in, we are getting runover by madness. It is important to show that people show our truth in a peaceful way.”

The Argus:

Speaking at The Level, union campaigner Alex McIntyre claimed Boris Johnson was a “liar and a charlatan” who has expressed bigoted views.

He said: “Boris does not speak for Brighton and does not represent any of us.”

Brighton Queer AF campaigner Nell Chipping said the Prime Minister has appointed a “homophobic” cabinet, with members who have likened same-sex marriage to bestiality.

Boris Johnson has faced calls from LGBT Conservatives to apologise for his comments in the 1990s, when he referred to gay people as “tank-topped bum boys”.
