SOUND complaints marred Rag 'n' Bone Man’s homecoming show.

The singer, whose real name is Rory Graham, returned to the city where he first made his name to perform at Brighton Racecourse on Saturday.

However, while many fans loved the show, some were unhappy after paying nearly £100 for tickets only to be disappointed by the sound.

Richard Ford, from Hove, said he and his wife Janice felt left down because they could not hear the set clearly.

The couple, who are in their early sixties, said they paid £99 each for VIP tickets but the sound quality failed to live up to the price.

Their seats were in the racecourse grandstand, to the side of the stage, but Richard said the set up meant speakers were only facing those in front of the stage.

He said: “We thought it would be a great experience but it wasn’t.

“The seats are in the grandstand but the stage wasn’t face on to it.

“The sound was atrocious, you couldn’t hear him sing and he’s not exactly a man with a quiet voice.

“We couldn’t see the brass section or the backing singers from where we were.

“The bass was incredibly loud and drowned out everything else.

“We spoke to people who were at the front who said the sound was good, but then we spoke to some further back who said it wasn’t as good. When you go to a show you expect to see and hear the band.”

Paul Ellison, executive director at Brighton Racecourse, said: “We apologise to any guests who had any issues with sound while in the VIP area – with changeable wind conditions on the night we couldn’t control the travel of the sound from the main stage.  “With the track off-limits due to our busy race calendar, the grandstand is the closest we can allow for those wanting to use hospitality at the same time.

“We were absolutely thrilled to host Rag 'n' Bone Man’s homecoming gig in Brighton and to see so many fans enjoying the music on Saturday night.  “Our venue is so much more than a racecourse and it’s fantastic to see the iconic track being bought to life with a new audience and such an amazing line up of music.”

There was plenty of positive feedback about the show.

Twitter user Maria Lopez said: “Had the most wonderful day in Brighton finished by Rag 'n' Bone Man live. You were brilliant.”
