BRIGHTON and Hove Albion have said they will "take action” against those posting homophobic abuse of their Facebook page.
The club have changed their profile picture on the social media site to incorporate the colours of Brighton Pride, which is due to take place this weekend.
Within minutes the comments under the picture were filled with hateful homophobic slurs and criticisms of the club.
One post in the comments read: “We are not gay stop this s***.”
While another, translated from French, said: “Is this the gay club.”
One commenter even said: “Where’s the straight flag.”
Many of these comments have now been deleted.
The Albion have always strongly backed the LGBT culture in the city.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Our stance on homophobia and all forms of discrimination is well documented, so we will also take the appropriate form of action against the individuals.”
