LADY Colin Campbell’s verbal tirade against Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, seems very harsh.

Her claims that the American-born royal is “cheap, vulgar, and irresponsible” will not resonate with many residents of Sussex. It seems Lady Campbell has been rather vulgar here.

The Duchess of Sussex has been a refreshing change for the Royal Family. She seems approachable and kind, and her visits to Brighton with husband Harry have attracted plenty of happy onlookers.

Whatever your opinion of the Royal Family, it is clear they are here to stay for a while. Public opinion of the royals still suggests we have a soft spot for them, whether that is right or wrong.

So it is good to see some change in the family that reflects modern British attitudes.

The Duchess of Sussex seems like a fantastic role model for young women.

She must constantly deal with hateful barrages from those like Lady Campbell, as well as constant scrutiny from the press.

And yet she remains unshaken as a member of the Royal Family, however much some newspapers try to portray her as public enemy number one.

There is certainly the question of how political she can be. The Royal Family is supposed to be above politics, although previous incidents have shown this is not always the case.

Meghan was certainly vocal on politics before her marriage to Harry, expressing support for Hillary Clinton in America and blasting Donald Trump.

But she has not waded into politics on this side of the pond and is not very likely to.

The truth is she is doing a fine job as duchess.
