A THUG stabbed his partner in the neck with a pair of scissors in a “murderous rage”.

Luke Berry admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent on a woman at his home in Blackboys, near Uckfield.

The 38-year-old mechanic had been in a relationship for six months, but the woman chose to end it.

But enraged Berry refused to accept the decision.

He punched her in the face, then as she fled he dragged her back into the home and stabbed her.

Judge Paul Tain said: “This was a sustained attack. You were overcome by a murderous rage, and using scissors in the manner you did could have caused death.”

Berry had been coercive and controlling when he ended previous relationships, the judge said.

Detective Constable Tania Snashall said it was a “horrific experience” for the woman.

“It was only down to sheer good fortune that the victim survived this attack,” The detective said.

DC Snashall praised the victim for having the bravery to come forward to report the attack.

“Domestic abuse should never be tolerated and this is one abuser who will now be serving a significant custodial sentence for his crime,” the detective added.

Berry, of School Lane, Blackboys, was jailed for ten years and deemed to be a danger to the public. He was put under a restraining order.
