A CAR smashed into three others after a high speed police chase last night.

Two men inside got out and ran off but were chased by officers.

A witness said they saw dog units and a helicopter also being used in the search in Old London Road, Patcham.

The Argus:

She said: “I saw a black car appear out of nowhere at high speed followed by several police cars.

“It crashed into the side of another car and then across the road into the front of an estate car, then it bounced over to the other side of the road and into a parked car.

“I believe two men ran from the car but I only saw the driver jump out and run round the back of the Co-op, followed by the police.

“I believe they chased him over fences through people’s gardens.

“There were dogs out and the helicopter was searching as well. It’s amazing that it seems no one was badly hurt.”

A police spokesman said: “Police made two arrests and seized a quantity of drugs after a vehicle pursuit ended at Patcham.

“At 8pm on Sunday police attention was drawn to a car being driven south down the M23 and A23 towards Brighton.

The Argus:

“As it approached the Patcham interchange it accelerated away from officers and went into Old London Road, where it collided with a car being driven by a member of the public, and with two parked cars, before being abandoned.

“The two men in the car ran off but were pursued and quickly arrested by officers on foot.

“In the car police found a quantity of drugs, including cannabis and crystal meth.

“Two men aged 19 and 24 from South East London, were arrested and are in custody for interview and further enquiries.

“The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of drugs with intent to supply, and allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle.

“The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and drug driving.”
