ON THIS day ten years ago The Argus went to the Bluebell Railway to see the steam line celebrate its 50th anniversary. Forces Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn was in attendance to join in the celebrations and to help the appeal to extend the line into East Grinstead
The historic Bluebell Railway celebrated its 50th anniversary and staff were appealing for funds to help them extend the line
The hope for the 50th anniversary appeal was to raise enough money to extend the line to East Grinstead
The railway had closed in 1958 but reopened not long after
Dame Vera Lynn was in attendance to celebrate 50 years of the railway
She even blew the whistle to get the train on its way
Dame Vera also enjoyed some bubbly with TV journalist Nicholas Owen
