SIX Indian restaurants have been nominated for top awards.
The curry houses, from across Sussex, are all contenders in the annual English Curry Awards.
Planet India, in Richmond Parade, Brighton, is the closest to the city centre and has been announced as a finalist in the Vegetarian Restaurant of the Year category.
Elsewhere, Dosa Club, in Crawley, has been nominated as one of the best Indian restaurants in the South East, in the Restaurant of the Year category.
Masala City, in Chichester, will rival Dosa Club in the same category. While Chichester’s India Gate is nominated in Chef of the Year.
Cardamom Bay, in Bognor, has been nominated in the Most Wanted Restaurant category.
And Tuk Tuk Indian Street Food, in Eastbourne, has been nominated in the Street Food of the Year category.
The awards, which are now in their ninth year, celebrate the best in the English curry industry.
Irfan Younis, chief executive of Oceanic Consulting which runs the awards, said: “The curry industry represents so much more than just food – it celebrates history, community and innovation and we cannot wait to celebrate the achievements of those who work within the industry and succeed.”
The award ceremony will be held at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre on Monday, August 19.
