A GARDENER has appeared in court charged with attempted rape.
Sorin-Alexander Mandache, 23, a landscape gardener, of no fixed address, appeared in custody at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
He was charged with the attempted rape of a 44-year-old woman in Hook Lane, Bognor, shortly after 10pm on August 1.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody for a pre-trial hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court on 6 September.
The prosecution, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service, follows enquiries by detectives from the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit.
