A PAIR of insatiable pandas have munched their way through a worrying amount of a zoo’s bamboo supplies.

Red pandas Mulan and Maja have been putting away more than 2kg of the plant each day leaving staff at Drusillas Park, near Alfriston, concerned about its rapidly depleting stocks.

So it has launched an “urgent bamboo appeal” asking people in Sussex to donate their shoots to the duo.

Head zookeeper Sophie Leadbitter said: “Normally we would look to our own grounds to supply the required bamboo, but our gardening team have now had to ask us to stop raiding their bamboo as there is very little left.

“We are therefore appealing to the public to help.”

Staff say they can collect supplies of bamboo

from within a 15 mile radius.
