A NEW cafe is the latest name to be announced for the Hanningtons Estate.

Humpit Hummus will open in North Street, Brighton, on Wednesday, August 21.

The hummus and pitta bar is hoping to bring a health injection to the street, with its first branch in the south of England.

Humpit, which was set up in 2014 by Jonathan Phillips, currently has eight locations across the country with the furthest south being at Media City in Manchester.

The Brighton branch is one of six the company plans to open this year.

It will open on the corner of the road and the entrance to the new Hanningtons Lane.

Humpit started off as a street food vendor in Leeds.

It was recognised as the best street food newcomer in the UK by Richard Branson’s Virgin Start-Up in 2015.

The store prides itself on its plant-based food and serves salads, falafel and of course hummus.

Founder Jonathan said: “We are delighted to be bringing our exciting

hummus and falafel offer to Brighton.

“This is such a vibrant city to be part of and the perfect base for us to start spreading the hummus love across the South of England.

“We are really excited to be opening our first store in the South, especially here in Brighton where my dad lived in the Seventies.

“It’s nostalgic for him and the family and to be part of the Hanningtons Estate is really special.

“We have just signed a deal with the National Union of Students to open up more stores within universities and will also be opening our first store outside the UK next year.”

The Hanningtons Estate, which owns the Lane as well as areas of North Street and East Street, opened in April.

Recognised high end brands such as Habitat, Oliver Bonas and Watches of Switzerland have all opened in North Street in recent weeks.

Hotel Chocolat is being fitted out and is expected to open soon, having moving from its former location in Duke Street.

However, while North Street is filling up, there are still stores empty in the new Hanningtons Lane.

Currently it is home to the Flint House restaurant, Brass Monkey ice cream parlour and the Olive Grove restaurant – which was already in Meeting House Lane.

However Hanningtons bosses have said they are not concerned and will not rush to fill the empty shops.
