A PAIR of St Bernard dogs got “married” at a church.

Marmalade, aged one, and two-year-old Mr Slovobic tied the knot at All Saints Chapel in Eastbourne.

Owner Sjaan Marwick said now the two dogs are happily married after their nine-month relationship she is looking forward to them having puppies.

She said: “I have a whole plan ahead for their life together and it’s going to be fun.

“I just thought it would be so nice to host a ceremony for them.

“And it was also nice to do something like this to brighten up people’s days.

“It’s good to put a smile on someone’s face.”

Mr Slovobic wore a bright red tuxedo while Marmalade sported an elegant veil on the big day.

The happy event was documented by Sjaan on her Facebook blog The Saints of Sussex.

She said: “Writing up their life story all started with my son Sebastian when we were writing up his experience working with show dogs.

“Then we just started putting funny posts on there and it evolved from that and it just turned into following Mr Slovobic and Marmalade’s life.”

Marmalade and Mr Slovobic have even acted out the famous scene from the Disney film Lady And The Tramp, where the two dogs share a string of spaghetti.

The ballet teacher, from Hailsham, also plans to take her enormous pooches on a trip to London.

She said: “I thought it would be quite fun for them to re-enact that famous image where The Beatles walk across the zebra crossing on the Abbey Road album.

“It’s such an iconic image and I think it would be really great to have them doing it.”

Sjaan also looks after Branson, an elderly Rottweiler, and shows the St Bernards.

Sjaan has been grooming Mr Slovobic for days in preparation for a championship show in Bournemouth today.

“He does take a while to get ready,” she said.

“He is enormous, it takes him a while to dry after he’s had his bath.”

The newly-wed was brought in from Russia, hence Sjaan’s choice of name for him.

“I knew I wanted Marmalade to have puppies, so we brought him in especially.

“All I needed to do was wait for them to get married and now they can have puppies.”

Although dogs are not officially allowed to get married in a chapel, Sjaan still went ahead with it outside the entrance.

“It’s great to be able to share something light-hearted with people.

“We do see a lot of sad stuff on the internet, so it’s good to be able to brighten people’s days with these lovely characters.”
