A COUNCIL has said lessons have been learned after a young woman was murdered.

Brighton and Hove City Council said it was the duty of community safety partnerships to review the domestic homicide.

Referring to the murder of 19-year-old Shana grice by her ex boyfriend, who had stalked her, a council spokesman said: “The review identified some valuable lessons for services in how they might improve responses to the perpetration of stalking and harassment, and improve victim safety.

“It also highlighted the need to continue to raise awareness of stalking and harassment and the very real harm it can cause, with both services and the general public.”

He said the council would improve services for victims and survivors of domestic abuse, raise awareness about stalking and harassment “so that everybody knows these behaviours are not acceptable” and work to “identify perpetrators early and act on perpetrating behaviours”.

The spokesman said: “Such reviews try to ensure that local organisations understand what happened and identify the lessons to be learned in order to prevent such tragedies being repeated.”

Brighton and Hove Community Safety partnership commissioned a review into this case. Shana, 19, was murdered by Michael Lane in 2016It has now been revealed he was arrested over claims he groomed a 14-year-old while volunteering as a Scout leader six years earlier.
