SUSSEX has the highest rate of dating scams, according to new research.

A new study by consumer group Which.co.uk found nearly 2 people out of every 10,000 in the county have been a victim of such fraud.

Romance scams involve duping those looking for love into transferring money to a fake romantic interest.

Jon Holden, head of security at finance app Atom Bank, said internet users should always be careful when communicating with online strangers.

He said: "I’d also take care communicating your finances in front of your family and friends.”
