FAMILIES and young children have been spotted playing in "massive waves" while strong winds sweep across Sussex.
The Met Office warning for high, strong winds is still in place and expected to last for the rest of the day.
One mother said she was horrified to see people entering the sea while she was walking with her children along Brighton seafront today.
"I have seen lots of really stupid people letting small children go into the massive waves on the beach," she said.
"Loads of families with young children and toddlers going into the waves.
"I don't think I have ever seen the sea look rougher."
A spokesman from the Brighton and Hove Seafront Team posted online: "Due to the extreme wind and sea conditions, please do not enter the sea today.
"We have got red flags across all of our beaches.
"Take care if you are planning to come down to the seafront.
"High tide is at 8pm this evening, but it will still be very dangerous at low to mid tides.
We will be patrolling the beach as usual until 7pm."
