AN UNEXPLODED bomb was detonated after an unwitting resident stumbled across it in their back garden.

Officers from Worthing and Adur Police attended the scene.

A spokesman said: “There was a bit of excitement today after a resident found unexploded ordinance in their back garden.

“It was safely removed by the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team and safely detonated at Goring Gap.”

This was not the only bomb discovered in Sussex this week.

Officers from Lewes Police responded to reports of an unexploded Second World War mortar in Ringmer.

A team from the British Army attended and confirmed the explosive was “spent”.
