ROADWORKS will help protect the surfaces from potholes, say council chiefs.
The work will be carried out on roads in Lewes, Newhaven, Kingston, Glynde, Framfield, Hastings and Battle from Monday to September 2.
Diversions will be in place along the 29 miles of route affected.
East Sussex County Council cabinet member Claire Dowling asked people to be patient while it is done.
Cllr Dowling said: “Surface dressing is a relatively simple and cost-effective way of protecting our roads.
“I know from speaking to residents that potholes are a major concern for people, and surface dressing is a way of preventing them from forming in the first place.”
