A GRANDMOTHER says he car was shot at while she was driving along the seafront.

Joanne Smith, 54, was near Brighton Palace Pier on Wednesday night when she hear a loud “explosion” in her car.

The Peacehaven woman was “horrified” after realising the back window of her Mini Cooper had been shattered and a round hole left in the glass.

She said: “On my journey home, someone shot at my car.

“I have had stones hit windscreen and I have heard noises from a small object and that was like nothing I have ever heard.”

The incident happened at about 7.30pm in King’s Road, near the junction with Pool Valley.

She looked in her rear view mirror and “saw feet running away”.

A panicked Mrs Smith ducked down before driving off to safety.

She said: “I rang my husband and said I think someone just shot at my car.

“If you are the parents of those little s**ts, I’m a mother and grandmother who may have been seriously hurt tonight.

“Just why would people do that to somebody?

“I have three grown-up sons and I know without a doubt they never in their lives would harm another human being or get pleasure from scaring someone.

“I always knew where they were. Where have people like me and my sons gone?”

Mrs Smith now needs to pay £60 for a replacement window.

She has come forward to warn others of “what can happen where they live”.

Sussex Police said they received a report of criminal damage at 7.33pm on Wednesday.

Officers attended the scene to look for any evidence of a projectile, but nothing was found.

They also carried out a search of the area but said there was “no sign of any suspects”.

A police spokesman said: “There are no further lines of enquiry at this stage, however anyone with any information about the incident is urged to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 1266 of 14/08.”
