A cat well known for lounging on car bonnets has been spotted striking a pose.

Nicole Healing took the picture of ginger moggy Charlie sprawled over a Jaguar in the car park of Tesco in Church Road, Hove.

She said: “I was on the way to have dinner with friends and I noticed him just chilling out.

“I didn’t see it at first but Charlie was posed where the cat-shaped hood ornament goes on a Jag.”

Nicole, of First Avenue, Hove, said she is allergic to cats and had to take the snap from a safe distance.

Charlie is something of an attraction at the supermarket. His owner Donna Jenner Russell, who lives behind the supermarket in Stirling Place, said he was famous for his antics in the car park.

She said: “I think he likes how warm the bonnets are. He’s a very laidback cat.”

Charlie has also been spotted getting up to no good with his sister and partner in crime Lola. Donna said: “They’re pretty like-minded. Lola loves to lie on the barbecue coals at the front of Tesco.

“She doesn’t tend to go on the cars, but she was once seen climbing into one with the roof down and getting comfy on the back seat.

“Everyone knows them. People who thought they were strays used to take them off every so often, and I’ve picked them up from the vets more than once. It’s a bit of a nightmare.

“But now they’re so well known they’re left to their own devices. All this interest in them has come out of the blue – it’s mad.

“I don’t know where these two get it from. I’ve got another cat and she’s quite nervy. She barely leaves the garden. The other two have found a way over the garden wall and through a hole in the fence to Tesco.

“I think they just crave the attention. It’s more Charlie than Lola I suppose.

“She’s a lot more affectionate and she’ll put her paw out and ask for a stroke as you’re walking past.

“Charlie’s just happy to lay on the sofa – or a convenient car bonnet.”
