PATIENTS have had their say on the service they are provided by their GP in a thorough annual assessment.

The GP Patient Survey has revealed how Brighton and Hove’s doctor’s surgeries were rated for 2019.

Residents were asked for their opinion on a variety of elements with practices, from booking appointments, waiting times, out-of-hours services and the quality of care given.

Across Brighton and Hove 12,799 surveys were handed out to patients and 3,777 were completed and returned.

Overall practices in the Brighton and Hove CCG recorded a 85 per cent positive satisfaction rating, two per cent above the national average.

Matlock Road Surgery - which is due to close this year - came out with the highest patient satisfaction rating, with 97 per cent rating them as good or better.

Montpelier Surgery (below) was rated good by 95 per cent of patients.

A further three practices - Pavilion Surgery, Beaconsfield Medical Practice and Stanford Medical Practice - received 95 per cent.

The lowest ranked practices were Hove Medical Centre and the University of Sussex Health Centre, with a 73 per cent overall satisfaction rating, while another 16 practices in the region were below the national average.

These were Park Crescent Health Centre (74 per cent), Ardingly Court Surgery (76 per cent), Wish Park Surgery (77 per cent), Broadway surgery (77 per cent, St Peter’s Medical Centre (79 per cent), Albion street Centre (80 per cent), Brighton Health and Wellbeing Centre( 80 per cent), School House Surgery (81 per cent), Benfield Valley Healthcare Hub (81 per cent), Saltdean and Rottingdean Hub Practice (82 per cent), Brighton Station Health Centre (83 per cent), Woodindean Medical Centre (83 per cent), Regency Surgery (83 per cent), Portslade Health Centre (84 per cent), and Seven Dials Medical Centre (84 per cent).

A total of 75 per cent of Brighton and Hove residents who completed the survey said their overall experience when making an appointment was good.

This was down two per cent on 2018.

Arch Healthcare CIC was ranked as good for this area by 98 per cent of patients, while The Haven Practice and Montpelier Surgery received a 95 per cent good rating.

Ardingly Court Surgery, St Peter’s Medical Centre (below), Park Crescent Health Centre and Woodingdean Medical Centre all scored the lowest in this category with 58 per cent.

More than a quarter of Brighton and Hove residents – 27 per cent – said they were not satisfied by the available appointment times.

The survey revealed 47 per cent of patient responses at Hove Medical Centre were dissatisfied with the range of appointments on offer, the worst record in the county.

The Haven Practice was rated as the best in this area, with 90 per cent patient approval on the range of appointment times on offer.

The helpfulness of receptionists was also surveyed, with Brighton and Hove GPs polling at 93 per cent being helpful.

Broadway Surgery came out as the worst practice, with only 77 per cent of patients stating reception staff were helpful.

Regency Surgery, Links Road Surgery (below) and Arch Health CIC all received 100 per cent approval for the helpfulness of receptionists.

Patients were also asked how easy is it was to get through to someone at their practice on the phone.

In the Brighton and Hove CCG area, 76 per cent said it was easy.

Ship Street Surgery and Arch Health CIC both recorded 100 per cent for this category, while Park Crescent Health Centre (below) was rated the lowest, with 48 per cent of patients stating it was easy.
