HOUSE sellers across Brighton are not getting the money they want for their properties.

New figures show a big difference between the amount houses are being listed at and their eventual sale price.

In some areas – such as BN7 – buyers are snapping up homes for about £20,000 less than their advertised cost, on average.

The Argus:

In the BN1 postcode, which covers Brighton, Withdean, Stanmer and Hollingbury, sellers are being bartered down by almost £19,000.

And in leafy BN3 areas such as Hove and Aldrington, selling prices are more than £17,000 lower than the list price.

The data has been compiled by housing website Property Solvers, which uses listing price figures from Right Move and house sale information from the Land Registry.

The site looked tracked house sales in each area over the last year.

The Argus:

How long are houses taking to sell?

As well as properties going for less than the asking price, sellers in some areas are having to wait longer than others to shift them.

Properties in the BN5 area are taking more about five months – 21 weeks – to find a new owner.

And in the BN10 and BN7 areas, homes are taking 19 weeks to shift.

In Brighton itself, sellers in BN2, which covers Kemptown and Rottingdean, are waiting 15 weeks before their sales are completed.

They are also getting about £13,000 less than they wanted from the sale.

Property expert Jon Anthony from Brand Vaughan said: "Despite the uncertainty we seem to still be agreeing sales on a daily basis.

"I believe part of this is down to savings a seller can make on there onward purchase. Despite everything we always aim to get the best possible price for our sellers on each and every transaction."
