DRIVERS have been warned to be careful after fire crews attended a series of serious crashes.

Crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called out to seven collisions in 24 hours yesterday, including a car which had crashed into a tree in Newpound Road, between Wisborough Green and Loxwood, at 4.20pm.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was left with serious head and spinal injuries and was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, London.

A spokesman said: “Crews and other emergency services dealt with a single vehicle road traffic collision on the B2133 at Wisborough Green.

“This is the seventh crash we have been called out to in 24 hours in West Sussex.

“Please be careful on the roads.”

The road remained closed for several hours afterwards as police investigated the incident.

This followed a crash at Elmsworth on the A27.

The air ambulance was called and the road was closed causing large queues to form. Traffic was diverted via the A259.

Anyone who witnessed the Wisborough Green crash is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Halberd.
