THE apologies made by Caroline Lucas for those badly thought-out comments about composing an “emergency cabinet” are to be welcomed (The Argus, August 19).

However, her thought process in making those selections for her imaginary cabinet in such an unrepresentative way are still a cause for concern.

It is a shame that her personal selections for the “emergency cabinet” are all people who are white, female and middle class, which is unrepresentative of both Parliament and the people.

She says that she wants to “bring in the best talents and minds to stop a no deal” yet she seeks to exclude a large proportion of the population and her selections are of course subjective ones.

Ms Lucas claims to believe in “inclusivity” yet her proposals were anything but inclusive.

The MP for Brighton Pavilion has shown herself to be elitist in her approach and happy to exclude large sections of the population.

There should be genuine equality of opportunity and participation in political activities should be open to all, not just a select few who meet certain criteria set by Ms Lucas.
